How to setup kiosk mode for Guest Portal
If you are looking to use the Guest Portal on a public device in your hotel, please see the steps below to correctly set it up.
NOTE: Kiosk mode can only be set up from the device that will be used for the kiosk. This is because the kiosk mode is tied to a specific device. Also, you will need to connect to a network that has a static IP address because the kiosk mode URL is specific to an IP address.
- Go to 'Configure > Guest Portals > Edit'
- Click the 'Link' button
- Select 'Kiosk' from the dropdown list.
- Click 'Copy' to copy the liosk mode URL to your clipboard.
- Paste the URL into your address bar to go to the Guest Portal in kiosk mode.
Viewing Guest Portal in full screen
Kiosk mode is designed to work in full screen so we recommend doing the following steps, if you are using a tablet for the kiosk:
For iPads / iPhones
- While viewing the sign in page of the Guest Portal, click the share icon (icon with square and arrow pointing up).
- Select 'Add to Home Screen'. This will add an icon to your home screen, that launches the Guest Portal in kiosk mode in full screen.
For Android devices
- While viewing the sign-in page of the Guest Portal in the Chrome browser, tap the menu icon (three dots in the top-right corner).
- Select “Add to Home screen.” This will add an icon to your home screen that launches the Guest Portal ina standalone, full-screen window.
Preventing access to other apps
Your device should be set up to only allow access to the Guest Portal in kiosk mode and no other apps. Please do the following to ensure access is restricted:
For iPads / iPhones
- Open the 'Settings' app.
- Go to 'Accessibility'.
- Scroll down and tap 'Guided Access'.
- Toggle 'Guided Access' to 'On'.
- Tap 'Passcode Settings'.
- Set a 'Guided Access Passcode' (or enable Face ID / Touch ID for Guided Access).
To start Guided Access:
- Click on the new home screen icon for your Guest Portal.
- Triple-click the Side button (or the Home button on older devices).
- Adjust settings if needed, then tap 'Start'.
To end Guided Access:
- Triple-click the Side button (or the Home button).
- Enter your passcode or authenticate with Face ID / Touch ID.
- Tap 'End'.
For Android devices
- Open the 'Settings' app.
- Tap 'Security' or 'Privacy & security'.
- Select 'Screen pinning' (or Pin app).
- Toggle 'Screen pinning' to 'On'.
- (Optional but recommended) Enable 'Ask for PIN / Pattern / Password before unpinning'.
Start Screen Pinning
- Tap the Guest Portal icon that was added to the home screen.
- Once the page opens, tap the 'Overview / Recent apps' button.
- Locate the Guest Portal preview.
- Tap the app icon at the top of its preview.
- Select 'Pin'.
Exit Screen Pinning
Press and hold 'Back' and 'Overview' at the same time
(or follow the on-screen instructions for your device).
- Enter your PIN, pattern, or password if prompted.
